Feasting on a JewelFest

Occasion: The theme of this extravaganza of jewellery was Bold and Beautiful”. And the guests took it seriously — Dolly Cheong wore a brand new chain and pearl vest; while Audrey Mico and Karen Yip were in va-va-voom chilli red. Renee Tan and Dr Wendy Teoh went bold with their artistic and graphic dresses that stood out tastefully. The jewels were, of course, not any less glamorous. Designs by various local jewellers, including the private ones, were highly sought-after during this exclusive preview.

Capitalising on London’s waterfront

Occasion: Overlooking the marina’s calm waters, this preview of London’s New Capital Quay apartments by Galliard Homes reflects the same tranquillity surrounding the Greenwich waterfront environment of the London site. Our select VIP guests took their time looking for an ideal unit via a model of the apartments and inquired about details of the location. Among those seriously considering the purchase were Sophie and Jimmy Teo, who reckoned it worthy whether they keep it for their son or for resale.

Zenith of Exoticism

Occasion: To close the Zenith Affair, an inaugural jewellery exhibition by Lotus Arts de Vivre and Mario Buzzanca at the National Museum, this tasty luncheon served up not only the restaurant’s best, but also up-close-and-personal shopping of the artistic jewellery. The Italian guest jeweller Buzzanca’s one-of-a-kind pearl designs were presented to complement the Thai jeweller’s signature exotic gem-settings in nature’s best designs. Each guest also took home a professionally shot photo wearing their favourite jewellery design.

Constantin Craving

The occasion: In honour of the local release of Vacheron Constantin’s latest masterpiece, the manufacturer showcased the stunning timepiece together with heritage pieces in museum-like vitrines. This evening was complemented by a creative take on Italian food from guest chef Alfredo Russo of the Michelin-starred Dolce Stil Novo restaurant. While delectable models paraded watches to tantalise the eyes, delicious morsels delighted the taste-buds.

Tailored for You

The occasion: It pays to be the early bird. Select fashionistas by the invitation of Prestige and Gucci were the first to preview the latest collection at the trunk show. Waking up for this sharp and sexy tailored series proves well worth the extra eye cream: a prevalence of the ‘80s shoulders adapted to the current look re-invents the word ‘sexy’; and for the men, strong layering in alpine style gives inspiration for travel.

FOR A NEW LEASE OF LIFE

The occasion: The Yellow Ribbon rehabilitation act for ex-offenders ascends a whole new level with this inaugural Yellow Ribbon Charity Gala. The organising committee headed by Leow Tze Wen presented a guest performance from a segment of The King and I. Guest MC Susan Ng introduced talented inmates who performed practised song and dance items with heart-warming enthusiasm. Phillip Tan, chairman of the fund, was most pleased with the evening’s collection, including that of the auction successfully helmed by the very entertaining guest auctioneer, Mike Wiluan. Of course, the items were attractive in the first place, with sponsors like The Scarlet; Audemars Piguet; One&Only; Resort Kanuhura, Maldives; Opera Gallery; Cartier and Phillip Tan.

FEAST ON THE ARTS

The occasion: The feast was presented by chefs from the world over, including David Lee, Donato De Santis, Nicholas Anthony, Kazumi Uemoto, Jacques Reymond, Frederic Loraschi and the team from the hotel. There was a ‘live’ act of ‘Talking Portraits’ at the reception and an art and wine auction, which contribute to the Art Outreach programme.

BUTTERFLY KISSES OF WARMTH

The occasion: ‘The talk of the town’ would be the right phrase to label this evening. The IWF held a meaningful celebration of its anniversary by dedicating the funds collected to WINGS. In support of the many top female talents in IWF, both Minister Mentor and Mrs Lee Kuan Yew were present as their distinguished guests-of-honour. Bubbly WINGS chairperson Kanwaljit Soin was so grateful to the MM she planted a kiss on his cheek; in the same spirit, the MM planted one on IWF president Laura Hwang’s hand. Worked up to the sentiment of the generous participants, Dorothy Chan contributed $100,000 to up the total collection to $400,000. And everyone left happy with Dr Hauschka doorgifts.

CELEBRATING COPACABANA

Occasion: The Copacabana collection of extravagant jewellery, named in tribute to the princess of the Atlantic, was staged for all its guests to preview. Various other selections were subsequently presented by models working through the room, tempting the ladies with their unusual settings.
